Ok (video isn't something I do much but I think quite a few people do
(kids to kids, kids to grandparents etc).

The only hope of that was the mention of the Logitech Quickcam
(assuming it's a universal OS cam and USB (not F/W)). I guess most
Macs will already have iSights built in / on hence why they seem to
feature those.

No need for sorry (not why I was asking but thanks etc <g>), just
didn't know if it was something the newsreader did when say spell
checking or as you typed it in (auto correct) as I've seen it before
and from others (possibly using the same stuff).

While we are OT, is there a decent client for MSN on windows? I used to
use proteus, but last time I tried it didn't work.
I am currently using the proper MSN client, but it is all adverts, one
window per person, adverts that spin out if you go near the window etc.
In short, pretty horrible.

Ideally something like adium on OSX would be my first choice (which I
guess is like proteus was).

My Windows-using friends [of whom I have none] recommend Trillian.

Oh yes, it was trillian I meant, but last time I checked (a month or so
ago) it didn't seem to work anymore. Maybe they were just temporarily
down when I looked.

There is an unofficial patch for MSN (called apatch I think?) which
allows you to configure the MSN client exactly how you want. Remove all
the adverts, unneeded menu options, tabs etc...
