Samsung's Galaxy S Hailed as True Rival for iPhone in U.S.

Samsung Electronics' Android-powered Galaxy S smartphone, which launched
in the U.S. last week, won strong praise in a review by Fortune magazine
on Sunday.

Seth Weintraub, an IT columnist for the U.S. business magazine, called
the device "incredible," lauding its screen, weight and form factor as
"the best available in any phone right now, bar none."

Weintraub compared the Galaxy S, sold in the U.S. as the Vibrant through
T-Mobile and the Captivate via AT&T, with Apple's iPhone 4 and HTC's EVO
and Aria. He praised the Korean smartphone's screen and viewing angles
as better than those of the iPhone, thanks to its larger four-inch super
AMOLED display.

He also complimented the Galaxy S for its lightness. Despite its larger
display, it weighs 117.9 g, a whopping 20 g or 14 percent less than the
iPhone 4.

While the 5-megapixel camera on the Galaxy S has no flash, the columnist
said it performs very well even in low-light conditions. He called its
speakers "solid but not spectacular," but noted that he "had no problem
watching a movie in ambient noise of an office or home."
