From: Graham J on 26 Mar 2010 12:48 User has set up several accounts for different email addresses on the same domain (e.g. him(a)domain.com. her(a)domain.com, them(a)domain.com) All except the first one to be set up are marked as offline. I have seen it suggested that this is because the mail server (pop.123-reg.co.uk) cannot handle simultaneous requests for the same domain. Mail client is whatever arrived with the Mac (some flavour of OS10). Is it possible to "get mail" from just one account at a time to check this? If so could I have a description that might help this novice user without me having to go there. Is there a built-in newsreader that I could teach the novice to use? That way he could ask all of you for help ... -- Graham J

Personally, I am a MacSOUP fan, but there are Thunderbird, Hogwasgher.... John. -- Please reply to john at yclept dot wanadoo dot co dot uk.

Mail client is whatever arrived > with the Mac (some flavour of OS10). Are they true accounts, or aliases? The way I've one this is Mail (and the way it works with a MobileMe account) is to create just one account (which needs to be a 'catch all' account), and then add all your addresses into the 'Email Address' field in Preferences, using commas to separate each one. You could set up a filter to put each name's messages into different mailboxes. When sending messages, the pop-up menu in a new message pane allows you to select which address you want to send it from. IIRC what you have is similar to how Wanadoo used to work, and it was a real PITA to get working properly. I think I did it in Eudora back then, and put a short delay in between each account being checked, which allowed for it to close each one before checking the next - you can't do that in Mail. > Is it possible to "get mail" from just one account at a time to check this? > If so could I have a description that might help this novice user without me > having to go there. Mailbox menu, 'Get New Mail..' menu item, and select each account in turn. There's also no reason not to install another client, such as Thunderbird, or Entourage if they have MS Office. > Is there a built-in newsreader that I could teach the novice to use? You can use Thunderbird for both, but do remember to make sure HTML is turned off for newgroups, otherwise he won't get much help! -- Andy Hewitt <http://web.me.com/andrewhewitt1/>

But I've been using it since 1998, am well used to it, and am prepared to put up with the odd spelling mistake - if you are :-) -- Please reply to john at yclept dot wanadoo dot co dot uk. |
