Odd, because a google for "directoryservice improper shutdown detected"
does yield a match in the transmission forums... Do you throttle the
bandwidth in transmission?

There's nothing under Console's CrashReporter section?

Yes.

iStatLocalDaemon.

For the time being I'm going to file it under "One of those things" and
not worry overmuch, unless it happens again.
