Al's salient feature is his fatheaded self-absorbtion. When the
writers on Saturday Night Live could script him to make fun of
himself, it was amusing. When he scripts himself, and takes himself
seriously, he's just annoying. Compare him to Woody Allen (even though
he doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same room): Woody has always
been neurotic and self-absorbed, but he still makes fun of himself, so
he remains funny.

Woody was moderatley funny, until he did his kid. He lost me right there.
