I followed advice to replace the "xorg.conf" file (as root, since this file is owned by root) with a copy from the Open SuSE 10.3 install. Success ! I logged out, rebooted and got the expected graphical login screen. I have checked and everything seems to work as expected. All the (Alt+Ctrl+Fx) consoles are now present though there are no error logs for them. There is a "var/log/Xorg.0log" and a "var/log/sax.log" both of which I can post if needed. One file is about 49K and the other around 25k in size. Again many thanks to all for your assistance. -- Best Regards: Baron.
