When MS did away with Outlook Express I switched over to Live due to my Hotmail account (among other reasons). I can't tell you if it's "as good as Outlook" (or Outlook Express) because that's relative, but I think he'll find it to be an easier transition. It moved all my settings (including 3 e-mail accounts) with no fuss or muss, and once I spent a little time poking around the settings to get used to it, has been plenty easy to use.

He uses Outlook on his XP box and loves it as he posts a lot of mail (newslettters, etc). Any recommendations on a good client? Sorry..saw something here a while ago but didn't clue in, Some people misspeak when they say Outlook. Outlook OL is a mapi messaging client for MS Office suite. OL is not Outlook Express OE which is not a mapi client and does both mail and news. Most people who use 'some kind of' Outlook are using OE not OL. They are very different; and one would 'replace' OL differently than one would replace OE. That being said... Unlike previous versions of Windows which came with a mailclient, Win7 does not. XP came with OE. Vista came with WinMail, similar to OE. Since Win7 doesn't come with an agent, he is 'free to' install whatever kind of mailagent he likes, perhaps something like OE or perhaps something like OL. OL is more than a mail agent, as it is a PIM personal information manager with a calendar, task manager, contact manager, journal - an more importantly, migrates differently than OE. I would think he might care about how he migrates his either OL or his OE stuff over to whatever agent he chooses. You should get straight on OL vs OE before you go further in your research. -- Mike Easter
