I had a similar problem with a couple of Macs which were fixed that way (in one case by waiting in the repair shop so long - over 3 months - that when I collected it unrepaired all the batteries were totally flat and it booted up when I decided to give it just one more chance) Mike

I shall do so tomorrow, but the machine died whilst in use so I'm not very hopeful.
