Should be okay for charging the battery, 'cos the PSU should be designed to be incapable of being overloaded. Don't expect to be able to run the PB from the lower rated PSU, though... Shouldn't overload the PSU, but you can expect the battery to run flat slowly. The only special thing I'd try to make sure of if doing things that way would be to make sure that the PSU was somewhere it could cool really, really well. Running at max rated whatever generally reduces life expectancy... It is, but it can either charge a powered off powerbook or power it and not charge. OK for a one off charge but not much use in the long term. -- Woody www.alienrat.com

OK for a one off charge but not much use in the long term. Absolutely fine in the long term - *IF* you are happy with not being able to run the machine continuously, but instead having to let it charge up from time to time. Two things to add - the G3 power supply does indeed seem to charge it (and I'm not going to try and use it while charging) so thanks all for the input on that. Two, I've ordered a new 65W supply from an eBay supplier for 15, so we'll see how that goes. Mind you the last two I got were free from the apple store! -- Woody
