From: Miguel Sanchez on 18 Sep 2009 16:09 I have bougth a APC smartups, now i'm trying to set up the powerchute business edition software. My question is: How do I tell the UPS to wait 5 minutes after the utility power has gone to start a shutdown and from there wait 10 minutes before shutting everything off. As far as I can see there are 3 items that I need to change, but i have no idea about their correlation. Time Required For Shutdown Sequence Low Battery Signal OS Shutdown Delay TIA Miguel
From: Cliff Galiher on 18 Sep 2009 16:25 You should really post product support issues in a group appropriate for that product. This does not seem like a Windows SBS questions. From: Miguel Sanchez on 18 Sep 2009 16:49 I know, but the people here seems to be more willing to share their knowledge that in other groups ;) Miguel "Cliff Galiher" <cgaliher(a)gmail.com> escribi en el mensaje news:%23Xyf74JOKHA.4004(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > You should really post product support issues in a group appropriate for > that product. From: Dave Nickason [SBS MVP] on 18 Sep 2009 18:51 I'm not overly familiar with the various versions of the PCBE software, so yours might be a little different than my slightly older version. I dbl-click the UPS in the list, which brings up a window called Device Properties. In there is a Shutdown section. On the Shutdown Sequence page, you could set the delay to 10 minutes. You should also tell it the duration (how long the shutdown takes), which you can figure out by timing how long the server takes to shut down. Then on the Power Failure page, tell it to begin a shutdown after the UPS has been on battery for 5 minutes. Three comments: you're absolutely right, this group is awesome. Once you've configured PCBE, I recommend testing it to make sure you get the expected result. And, APC support is generally very good, so I would not hesitate to shoot them an e-mail if you have questions. I've been happy with their support from server UPSs like you're using all the way down to those inexpensive ones that sit under the desk. From: SuperGumby [SBS MVP] on 18 Sep 2009 20:30 and as all SBS systems should have an attached UPS, I consider it fair to ask here. In PowerChute BE, on the page where such settings are shown, there is a question mark on the title bar, however if you hit the 'configure' button and then the Qmark on that page there is a better description. 'Use the UPS On Battery Thresholds to set the Runtime Remaining Threshold for your UPS. This is the threshold at which PowerChute Business Edition initiates an OS shutdown. The range is from 2 to 59 minutes. For example, if you set the the Runtime Remaining Threshold to 10 minutes, and your UPS switches to battery operation, an OS shutdown begins when your UPS's battery has only 10 minutes of runtime remaining.' There is, TTBOMK, no way to tell PCBE 'shutdown after a 5 min power loss', hence, I prefer to use other software.
