From: Russ (SBITS.Biz) [SBS-MVP] on 21 Jun 2010 06:01 Sorry Pangaea I'm going to have to disagree with you, an i7 in Servers? I would never recommend any Desktop Processor in a Server Xeon Processors are for Servers, i7's are for PC's PC Pentium, i3, i5, i7. Processors for Desktops http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/ Server Xeon Processors http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/products/server/processor/ IMO A PC is not a Server and a Server is never a PC (Cross Dressing is not allowed.) And if you are doing Disk Caching to disk, IMO the server is not designed correctly A server should NEVER have to use Disks for Memory, if it is designed correctly. I know this is a Difference of Opinion, and you may think I'm mean. but IMO there is a reason why Intel designs a chip for a PC and one for a Server. (And it isn't just marketing.) Xeon has more cache - 12mb to 24mb of cache as opposed to 8mb With that being said, a cheaper CPU, say Dual Quad Core CPU's, will often be a better solution than a single CPU 8 Core CPU solution. -- You can't trust your best friends, your five senses, only the little voice inside you that most civilians don't even hear -- Listen to that.
