Everything you've said is exactly right except this small bit. The POD x3 was in fact designed with computer use in mind. It has a USB type B connector which can be used to connect the POD to a computer and act as a USB audio input device[¹]. But unfortunately Line6 only offers support for windows and mac and it is said that the company "has no intention of developing a linux driver or releasing the source code so that others can"[2]. There's also an attempt at a linux driver[3] but unfortunately it doesn't work with the POD x3. Sunny beaches!... the answer to my dreams has been around all this time. Apparently, I suck at googling. Thnx. nb

If the output to whatever you want to record is too high, get an attenuator as suggested. Or get say a USB Transit USB audio card (about $70) or some other cheap small audio card.(the transit has very good performance in my tests. I have not tested others. It is usb powered, and is about the size of computer mouse, but thinner) The Transit has line only input, althought it does have a 4 V bias voltage on the input, so a mic could be powered. The input level is however a bit low for a mic. The distortion/noise is only a little bit ( a few dB) above the discretization noise at 16bits. > > ><snip/> > > Rui Maciel > |
