Instead of a geeky style programming language interface a graphical interface with a hierarchy of "and" and "or" qualifications, an interface that is literally obvious and quickly understood by the non programmer, would be far more appropriate. -- James Leo Ryan --- Austin, Texas --- taliesinsoft(a)me.com Nothing smells like a bloodhound, especially when wet!

I have. Perhaps you shouldn't be providing edicts regarding what others should or shouldn't say and to whom. I simply provided information. You are free, of course to stuff that information anywhere you like. > Or maybe, you don't see any need to to, either? "Either"? I think anybody who would like to change newsreaders should try other newsreaders. Unison 2.x is an other newsreader. I've tried it out and have gui problems with it. As stated a couple of times in related threads, I hotwired macros in Unison 1.8 with Quickeys so that the number-pad behaved like Thoth. I've yet to sit down and spend a weekend making Unison 2.x do the same thing. And might not be able to. So then it would be another program I operate with my shoulder and forearm pushing a mouse around, instead of my fingers--like most others. As to how do the filters work, I don't know as I haven't gotten past my own issues long enough to attend to yours--either. -- Thank you and have a nice day.

The better more full featured newsreaders that are available, SLRN, Xnews, MT-NewsWatcher, Pan, 40tude Dialog and likely others, all use PCRE as a standard that works very well with usenet clients WRT filtering. > Instead of a geeky style programming > language interface a graphical interface with a hierarchy of "and" > and "or" qualifications, an interface that is literally obvious > and quickly understood by the non programmer, would be far more > appropriate. "and" and "or" isn't "that much" of a concept to deal with. As far as "non programming" goes, you only need to to look at MT-NewsWatchers approach to PCRE and you would quickly realise that its not much more involved or difficult than clicking an [OK] or a [Cancel] button (its complexity is up to you, no more than that). X-posts ended. -- dee

Maybe I need to give the released version another try? I suppose it is the same with many applications, if one is using a version and an upgrade with significant changes in the interface comes along one has difficulty in adapting. In my case I was switching from Hogwasher to Unison and understood that it would take a bit of time to get used to things. Now I'm very comfortable! -- James Leo Ryan --- Austin, Texas --- taliesinsoft(a)me.com |
