From: Edward W. Thompson on 20 Apr 2010 11:39 I am running Windows 7 and find the two recent updates at the subject will not load. I have tried loading the updates both in 'normal' and 'safe' mode and have run the MS Update 'Fix It' (re registers the various dlls required) all without success. Has anyone else had the same problem and has a solution? Incidentally, when loading the updates they fail with a message to the effect the updates are not working, no error code. I have looked at the Windows error code log but there is no code there either.
From: PA Bear [MS MVP] on 20 Apr 2010 12:16 Tip: Insert your Office 2007 CD into the appropriate drive bay before the next installation attempt. Tip: If no joy, see if you can download the "fullfile" version of the update(s) via http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ or http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/ and then install it/them manually. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 Edward W. From: Joseph Trimboli on 27 Apr 2010 18:51 I have my Office 2007 CD in the drive, have downloaded full versions of both the updates, quit all active applications before attempting to install these updates - but they still don't install. No error message number is created - I have an ASUS M60J laptop running Windows 7 Professional - what else can we try please? From: Joseph Trimboli on 27 Apr 2010 19:04 By the way, I am running Microsoft Security Essentials as the Anti-virus program and I disabled it when trying to install both these updates manually - but it still doesn't work. From: PA Bear [MS MVP] on 28 Apr 2010 01:55 [And the other shoe drops...] Since you hijacked someone else's thread, I must ask you to state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2; Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit). When (approx. date) did you install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and was the computer fully-patched at Windows Update at the time? What anti-virus application was installed before you installed MSE, was your subscription still current, and did you uninstall it before you installed MSE? Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
