From: Richard Ellis on 28 Apr 2010 11:27 Cox recently announced they won't be supporting Usenet any longer. "Note: Effective June 30, 2010, Newsgroup service will no longer be offered as part of the Cox High Speed Internet service." They suggest an alternative source which is fairly pricey. Are there other sources, methods to connect to Usenet? Expensive? Free? Is it possible to access Usenet through Mail? Thanks ahead of time.. de -- Everybody is right. -Rochefoucault

Expensive? Free? there are a *lot* of options, from free text only services to paid if you want binary groups or just something more reliable than free (which is generally pretty good but it's certainly not perfect). there's even a usenet newsgroup for it, alt.free.newsservers. > Is it possible to access Usenet through Mail? i doubt it but you can always use google groups.

Please do a Google search for: usenet providers group:comp.sys.mac.* As I've said many times in the past, I consider my provider, http://individual.net to be not only one of the cheapest, but also THE best when it comes to SPM blocking. They also clearly have competent technical knowledge of running Usenet servers, and have top-notch reliability, and offer filtering capabilities that rival most others. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my very hungry SPAM filter. Due to Google's refusal to prevent spammers from posting messages through their servers, I often ignore posts from Google Groups. Use a real news client if you want me to see your posts. JR

Over and above that, they take great care of their customers even on an individual basis. There was an issue with the way my newsreader handled headers which sometimes screwed up threading. NIN diagnosed the problem & put a temporary work around on their servers until the author issued a fix for the reader. That's service! -- Fred

Text only groups though, but really BitTorrent is a far better way to share files if you're into that. -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
