I'm pre-ordering my iPhone 4 in June 15th, though.

If I were in your positon, I'd try to force myself to wait until the
11th. I'd likely fail in that attempt, though.

As for my current cell phone situation, I've managed to survive with
no-contract plans for all these years, currently with MetroPCS. My
service month with them just happens to coincide with the calendar
month, so starting up with AT&T on the 24th works out well for me.

Why would I try to wait or why would I likely fail? Never mind, I'll
answer both.

I'd try because I'm, well, frugal, and I'd prefer not to lose that
several weeks of the Verizon contract. I'd fail for lack of will power.

That isn't news, and it hardly means anything significant.

Steve Jobs recently responded to someone asking about the fact that Macs
weren't headlining at this year's WWDC. Here's what he said:

"We are focusing primarily (though not exclusively) on iPhone OS this
year. Maybe next year we will focus primarily on the Mac. Just the
normal cycle of things. No hidden meaning here."

'nuff said.

I see Safari 5.0 got released later in the day (not the rumoured
developer release), without being mentioned in the keynote.

Not sure how (perhaps just lucky timing of my weekly check), but I saw
it pop up in Software Update _before_ I got the e-mail from Apple's
security updates list about the almost 50 security issues fixed.

I note also that Tiger support isn't quite finished yet - Apple have
released Safari 4.1 for Tiger, including all the security fixes from
5.0, and some things like performance improvements but presumably
missing some new features.

(Haven't had a detailed look at either version yet.)

I note that iPhone 4's technical specs say it requires Mac OS X 10.5.8
and iTunes 9.2 (the latter is probably due for release about June 24, or
a little sooner).

This probably means that iTunes 9.2 will not run on Tiger, so Safari 4.1
may be the final update for Tiger (barring any subsequent bug fixes).
