Thought I'm sure I did read somewhere that you should let it go flat

That's more to remind the electronics where the low power point is,
rather than to keep the battery in fine condition.

Unfortunately true. If the next iPhone is going to be a bit taller, I
hope all the space is filled with battery.

I mean on the iphone. when i read an unread message it dsappears. Ah,
you have to ask it to keep a copy? boring! I thought i'd asked gmail to
do that. Think i'll use it at the web site instead.

Mine don't but I don't use gmail. May be a settings thing.

I've set mine up using the exchange settings

which gives you push email to the iPhone.

I'm not synchronizing contacts/calendars, leaving that to iTunes.
