It is an Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam and Anti-Malware program all in one. I have mine set to do a quick scan once a week myself. I don't even notice it did it if I don't check the log. (IOW, very un-intrusive). MSE does not contain e-mail scanning in the same form of other AV programs, but is always protecting you from malicious e-mail as well as any program. It does have real-time protection on all your files, including temp files where attachments may be opened to. E-mail scanning is not needed in ant e-mail program and is often the cause of problems rather than a cure. <canned> Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently.
