Check your /var/log/aptitude, i'm sure that a new kernel version got
installed and the old one (i.e. *-trunk-*) is therefore obsolete.

That's what happened on Squeeze here...but linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-686 is
still sitting in the boot directory ?????

still sitting in the boot directory ?????

Yes. Obsolete means that it is no longer present in the Debian archive
mirrors on the internet. It is still installed on your system, since you
installed it back when it was present in the Debian archive. But if you
remove the package, and you don't have the package file in the package
cache (/var/cache/apt/archives), and you don't have it on CD or DVD,
you won't be able to install it again.

dpkg -l linux-image |grep ^i

will show you that the version, -3, changed. The name did not.
