Made small index. Searched for the text string "axim" inside indexed .exe files. (quotes not part of search string, but adding them causes failure) Found a file containing "maximum allowed" Searched for the text string "owed" inside .exe files. Found a file containing "maximum allowed" Searched for the text string "axim / owed" inside .exe files. Found nothing. Searched for the text string "axim owed" inside .exe files. Found nothing. I'm not feeling the love from boolean searches. Am I doing something stupid?

AIUI you want to: (1) update a subset of directories but keep the other directory info. (2) report on unmounted drives (3) update the index quickly Most indexed search tools including Copernic will not let you update a only subset of the directories you have asked the tool track. In some tools you can set up separate indexes but that is can be overcomplicated If you deselect directories which have not changed and then you start an update, most search tools will assume the unselected directories are not required in the index. If you leave all the directories selected then it shouldn't cause performance problems because a properly designed search rover will quickly go through previously indexed directories. > If there's a way to update just one > directory without losing all the rest, that would work fine. > I'm not sure, but looks like if I set it for continuous monitor, > it's gonna forget all the stuff that's currently offline. > > I have an ancient program called catfish16 that saves its index. > That's pretty quick for filename searches. > But I'm getting so old and forgetful that the content search is > looking more attractive. An inflexible content search tool like Copernic feels like completely the wrong app for your requirements. If offline searching is very important, you are restricted in which file indexing tools you can use (such as Locate32) and you may even find a CD file organizer such as Cathy is a good fit. http://www.mtg.sk/rva/ |
