Exit FF, then "mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla.ORG" Start FF and check performance issue to see if it persists. Restore original configuration with "mv ~/.mozilla.ORG ~/.mozilla" if/when you feel it's justified. No need for all the su, adduser and login nonsense.

What about the plugin sub-directory. :) Maybe it does not have the correct UID/GID on it or it's files.
