Exit FF, then "mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla.ORG"

Start FF and check performance issue to see if it persists. Restore original
configuration with "mv ~/.mozilla.ORG ~/.mozilla" if/when you feel it's
justified.

No need for all the su, adduser and login nonsense.

Not necessarily a bad idea. What about the plugin sub-directory. :)
Maybe it does not have the correct UID/GID on it or it's files.

Creating a new user account is probably the least efficient way of checking
that issue.

Just keep in mind that might not help when it is a flash problem in
..macromedia or .googleearth or google-earth or some other app/plugin's
directory.
