From: faeychild on 21 Feb 2010 01:53 Re Firefox version 3.0.18. Recently upgraded. Because I have been running Noscript for a while I'm not sure when this behaviour started. I tried to use google maps and found that the world map wasn't displayed, just captions "unable to display map at this zoom level". Zoomed in or out makes no difference. The satellite view is fine but can't display labels. I suspected "No-script" but disabling it hasn't fixed the problem. Youtube also doesn't show images, just empty boxes with an internal caption. I have disabled open office, samba and mysql updates because I don't use them, but I doubt that Firefox needs these programs to run. Flash works fine so does Java. Java version 1.6.0_12 Flash version 10.0 r15. I did notice, after the upgrade, Firefox opened with a blank window; a reboot fixed this. I have run out of ideas to poke. -- faeychild Running kde on 2.6.29.6-desktop-3mnb kernel. Mandriva Linux release 2009.1 (Official) for i586

Sorry, running cooker 2010.1 alpha 2 and have not received ATI radeon driver for my card yet. > I suspected "No-script" but disabling it hasn't fixed the problem. > > Youtube also doesn't show images, just empty boxes with an internal caption. A reboot should not have been required. Have seen updates to other Mandriva flash packages cause current flash player to break. Removed those other plugins and all was better. Current list of flash plugins I move to hold/ directory prior to installing adobe's flash follow: libflashplayer.so npwrapper.libflashplayer.so *swfdec* -- The warranty and liability expired as you read this message. If the above breaks your system, it's yours and you keep both pieces. Practice safe computing. Backup the file before you change it. Do a, man command_here or cat command_here, before using it.

No. I realised later that a log out may have been all that was necessary. > Have seen updates to other Mandriva flash packages cause current flash > player to break. Pulled out to prevent possible conflict. I would have assumed that install routine would check and rename old files. But I have been burned by assumptions before. The world does not necessarily operate the way I expect :) > As you can see this is an old installation and is only now manifesting a bit of twitchyness. All that has been done recently is the installing of No-script and that automatic upgrade. So it's not a traffic stopper just academic curiosity. I should move onto 2010. faeychild Running kde on 2.6.29.6-desktop-3mnb kernel. Mandriva Linux release 2009.1 (Official) for i586

I could precipitate an upgrade nightmare. :) The FF browsers were *never* "out of sequence" ... it was your installation policies that failed to maintain the upgrade sequence when each became available. You'll not find any such imaginary upgrade nightmares with FF. Installing the current version has no dependence on what previous version you are using, as it will maintain your bookmarks etc.

I could precipitate an upgrade nightmare. :) Looking at http://old.nabble.com/-Cooker--firefox-to27694542.html would seem to indicate it might be a bit of a problem in the future. >> >> Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_18 >> File: libnpjp2.so > > My file is in the form- > libjavaplugin_oji.so > > as suggested for the Sun Java version Yes, the latest plugin security update forced me to use libnpjp2.so. > > >> >>> Flash version 10.0 r15. >> >> Shockwave Flash >> >> File: libflashplayer.so >> Version: Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45 > > Yes, the same file type name anyway Downside is your running with know security exploitable plugin. > I see. Third party installer really has no idea about other plugin names which might be used instead of theirs. > As you can see this is an old installation and is only now manifesting a bit > of twitchyness. I'd be twitchy if I were running software with know security exploits. Especially where there are "In the wild" exploits hunting unpatched systems. > So it's not a traffic stopper just academic curiosity. > I should move onto 2010. At least start testing since 2009.1 end of desktop updates is getting closer. http://www2.mandriva.com/support/lifecycle/ |
