no she isn't wrong. the ipad *comes* with a usb cable and it plugs into
a mac or a pc, no adapter required. that's how it syncs and charges.

you've done a survey? the lack of a physical keyboard, either built in
or external, is not affecting iphone and ipod touch sales.

so what's the point of a netbook? it won't fit in your pocket.

it has a 3g radio with what is probably the cheapest data plan on any
device - a no contract plan that's $15/mo for 250 meg or $30/mo
unlimited. verizon wants about double that per month with a 2 year
contract and their pay as you go plan is even worse.

it also has a gps, a compass and a multi-touch user interface. it can
play audio non-stop for nearly a week (140 hours). it has a ips lcd
panel, whereas laptops (and certainly netbooks) have tn panels, making
the ipad ideal for photos and movies and other content.

it is exactly os x, just not *mac* os x. basically, just the user
interface portion is different (and minor other things).

did *you* do a survey? you think most people want a keyboard. where's
*your* survey?

just look at how people are using an iphone and ipod touch. since
according to you, the ipad is just a big ipod touch, they won't be
needing usb connections or a keyboard, now will they?

look at iphone/ipod touch usage.

because some things are impossible, or at best impractical, on a small
screen.

if you can manage to carry a netbook, then carrying an ipad will be
*easier*.

it's not a netbook, thus it cannot be an underpowered netbook. it's a
tablet, and other tablets don't have covers or keyboards, so why should
this one? no adapter is required to use usb, as it comes with a usb
cable.

in any event, if you don't want one, don't buy one. very simple.

Bzzzt! Not advertised as being a computer, so your criticism is
spurious. Modern it most assuredly is.

> Look at it as an underpowered netbook without a cover.

You may look at it as a garbanzo bean if you wish, because your opinion
counts for nothing. It is the masses of educated buyers with above
average incomes who will determine the iPad's fate; they are Apple's
base anyway. If they don't buy, the iPad fails. (N.B. they're buying,
and the iPad will be another huge hit for Apple.)

And your rantings still won't matter; they have jealousy written all
over them. If you aren't jealous, and don't want people to think that
you are, you can avoid broadcasting that message about yourself by not
ranting and raving about how bad the iPad is (especially before you
have seen one!). You are profoundly mistaken if you think anyone cares
what you think of the iPad (or anything else, for that matter). Just
vote quietly with your wallet and step out of the way to avoid being
trampled at a store opening.
