Seems unlikely.
Apple has learned its lesson.
Market share comes before profits.

The iPad has been introduced at an agressive price,
that can't be lowered much in the near future,

Never had a Newton, but I recall a Palm IIIc wasn't significantly
cheaper than an iPad at launch - I'm sure they came in at 299 - with
the colour Palm V type device being even more. My Palm Zire wasn't cheap
either.

I recall buying my first laptop - a Tonkabook - picked up a clearance
model at JL for 799.... a *huge* amount of money at the time.

Last year, I paid the same for an Air.

Over recent years, I haven't seen technology really drop in price - just
equivalent models getting more and more powerful.

Yes, and what did you pay for the first MacPlus?
Or worse, for the II FX? (the most expensive Mac ever)

And yes, I know,

Maybe not Apple but it certainly happens through the retail chain
though, often pre the release of a new / updated model.

Then I'll probably have to go without or wait until one comes along
second hand at the right price (as with this 95 Mini).

See above then.

It does seem to be.

I'll have to think a little harder before I just click on 'Buy'.
