That's a major chore. You can also type in the lyrics field and cut and
paste but that is almost as bad. However, that field does appear when
you select a number of tunes, so it might be possible to copy into one
box and have it broadly applied.

Apparently it has to be displayed to be searched. I don't display it so
it did not appear to be searchable. This seems to be the only field
that has to be displayed to be searched. At least I have found no
others.

Same way. However, I subsequently discovered this field has to be
displayed to be searched. When I displayed it, it got searched. It
appears this is the only field that is handled this way, although I
could be wrong about that.
