From: Robert Peirce on 8 Aug 2010 18:56 I'm new to iTunes. Previously I created my own database, but this is faster. One problem is I often want to select albums that a particular artist played on, but iTunes seems to only allow the lead. For example, on "From the Master Tapes," John Coltrane was the leader and he shows, but the group included McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones and Roy Haynes, all important artists. Furthermore, Haynes only appeared on one track and Jones on the others. If I am looking for all the albums McCoy Tyner played on, I seem to have a problem. Is there a solution?

I found a manual way to do it. I can "get info" on each track and add other artists to the artist list. I can copy and paste to save some time but I still have to do each track, one at a time. I can put the lead artist in the album artist field and do the same copy/paste for each track. I then can search for members of the group. However, is there a way to do this automatically?

Selecting multiple tracks before choosing the Get Info command will allow you to apply changes to all selected tracks. > I can put the lead artist in the album artist field and do the same > copy/paste for each track. You can probably write a script to add the metadata to the tracks, but depending on where you are getting this information, there may not be an automatic way to get the information you want to begin with. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. Tat may be okay given your tip above. In most cases I am just filling in the artists in a group and they are the same across all the tracks. I have encountered another problem. iTunes defaults to putting the leader in the Artist field, so I am using the Album Artist field for members of the group. However, when I go into Album view, that is the filed that is used! Is there any way to have Album view use the Artist field, maybe a dwrite of some sort?

I wanted to change one field for all tracks and it worked like a charm. What a time-saver! |
