There is an issue with Vista as the host where VPC has to be run elevated to read some DVD's or copy protected CD's, but other than that, I haven't had any problems either. -- Bob Comer On Mon, 8 Dec 2008 12:26:51 -0000, "Mark Rae [MVP]" <mark(a)markNOSPAMrae.net> wrote: >"Bo Berglund" <boberglund(a)home.se> wrote in message >news:33goj4lmh0bhkkq95roc84tvccud62qjm5(a)4ax.com... > >> If you just insert the DVD into the main (physical) PC drive then of >> course your *main* PC will use it.... > >So you simply cancel autorun / autoplay and then capture the DVD in the >guest... > >> It is very much better to create an ISO image of the DVD before trying >> to install Vista on the virtual machine. > >Why? Put the media in the optical drive, capture it in the host, and off we go - what's inconvenient about that...? -- Mark Rae ASP.NET MVP http://www.markrae.net

Nothing, but if you have a bunch of existing ISO's, it's just as easy to attach them to a VM and you don't have to get out the DVD. -- Bob Comer On Mon, 8 Dec 2008 14:08:55 -0000, "Mark Rae [MVP]" <mark(a)markNOSPAMrae.net> wrote: >"Robert Comer" <bobcomer-removeme-(a)mindspring.com> wrote in message >news:ur9qj4tj8a5g1nkpp4igc86d26s33799pn(a)4ax.com... > >>> Why? I don't install on DVD or CD ever, too slow and too much hassle fussing with the optical media. Just drag and drop the ISO onto the CD icon and away you go. An ISO is an image file, you don't need a dvd burner. You create an ISO image to your hard drive -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |
