To the OP:
Download MT-Newswatcher which is a very a good usenet client or use
Thunderbird if you like the paneled look. Once you get that set up with
your usenet server come back if you have any questions.

the obvious question of which stripe you claim to be in.

What's the problem? He said his dad has never used usenet before, and
he gave no indication that his dad was even interested in it at all. An
"unless he's asked for it, I wouldn't bother" response seems entirely
appropriate to me.

Funny you should ask. I first started reading and posting to usenet in
my first semester of college. It was September of 1993. From that
point forward, everything went to pot.
