From: JF Mezei on 25 Mar 2010 02:27 I also despise web based forums. BUT... Apple doesn't monitor these newsgroups. So there is loss of value here, and if Apple monitors its own forums on the apple site, then those gain some value. In the end, while usenet is the easiest vehicle, if content is better on a web based forum, then it becomes worth the extra hassles and primitive user interface.

I must have missed that, or at least forgotten about it when I subsequently read this in the same post: "Dad hasn't really used ng's in the past." -- K. Lang may your lum reek.

This is the last post I see concerning my original post (if I'm wrong, please don't flame me) so I'll reply here. Again, I wanted to thank those who helped. And if I thanked everyone on the wrong post as one person said, I didn't mean to leave anyone out. My Dad and I appreciated all the help. To clarify: he did use a FEW ng's during the past year or two but forgot he had them. It was on OE and the Mac model I believe was OS 9, the "gooseneck" model as one person said. BTW, I'm posting this from my Windows 7 pc and I DID use Dad's OS 9, OE to post a few days ago as one person observed. He does have a few memory problems and we are both recovering from the flu, so I hope an occasional illogical comment can be forgiven. A few people here have resorted to negativity/criticism and I don't know why. On his new 27" iMac, he was able to set up his folders using what some people posted and he wanted me to say thank you to those who helped. We noticed an RSS feed option in the mail program on the new iMac as well and will attempt to set that up. I've done a few on my W7 pc but am not that experienced with them yet. I believe our email addresses show in every post but if anyone wishes to help him directly, he'd be happy to hear from you at "wneuhaus(a)cfl.rr.com". If there are more convenient forums or apps that people use to ask quick/brief questions than the ng's that come with Roadrunner, we'd be happy to hear about them. I only posted because I've seen Mac people always eager and friendly and willing to help others. I've been a Windows user for years but some areas are not my specialty. I AM realizing why Mac and Apple users defend their machines so loyally and I am taking a far greater interest in the new iMac than I thought I would. Again, thank you to all who helped us. |
