I note that the OP appears to have posted using MS Outlook Express for Mac via newshosting.com. While neither of those would be my personal first choice (newshosting.com appears to be aiming at large binary usage or some such - their cheapest plan is $10/month, compared to the 10 Eu/year I'm paying for individual.net), it does suggest that the OP at least has access to such. The post doesn't have enough information for me to figure out what is going on. I assume he isn't doing that from the system in question or the post would be self-answering, but perhaps there is some confusion that I haven't figured out. If this was posted from some previous system of his own, then that would imply he already has an account with newshosting. But maybe is using their free trial, or maybe it was posted from some friend's system. -- Richard Maine | Good judgment comes from experience; email: last name at domain . net | experience comes from bad judgment. domain: summertriangle | -- Mark Twain

I have 3 pc's running 2000pro, vista, and Win7. I'm new to W7 and it's email program let's me have 5 email addresses, rss, and newsgroups in one group. I don't know Macs and I was trying to help my father. A few kind people had posted how to do folders, etc. in the email program and Dad got them all set up and asked me to say thanks. He's had Macs since around 1984 but he's 83 now and his eyes miss some of the "fine print". I don't know the OS's but he has a mac laptop (the one using parellels or something that has dual booting into window and a mac os), then he has a mac model that has the white half globe shaped stand with a decent size screen that uses os9 something and I think he said he had some features from 10. He does have outlook exp. on that one and uses it for his mail and newsgroups. It used to have mac mail but it keeps asking for a "keychain password" and he doesn't remember it. I don't know if this mail app. is setup with Roadrunner or is something only on his machine meaning if he forgot the password, no one can help him. At least the mail works in OE. That's the machine I used earlier to ask about newsgroups being able to be put on the new iMac 27", 3.06 chip I think it was (the less expensive one). That's why you might see my email address for this post since I'm using my windows laptop and before I was using his. Due to the kind advice we received, he was able to set up his email on the new machine. I thought ng's might be set up like my windows system and be considered another "account" choice like Mail, News, etc. but I don't see that option. I tried even General Help for the whole machine and it said "not found". I don't really know Macs and Dad hasn't really used ng's in the past. Roadrunner gives us free ng access, there are about 80,000 groups and all you need is the name of the news server and sometimes the port. I think that's all the info I know. Again, thank you in advance for any help given.

There is no built-in OS X Usenet client. You have to download a third party program. MT-Newswatcher is a good one. After installing it you have to configure it to use whatever Usenet server you have subscribed to. > I don't really know Macs and Dad hasn't really used ng's in the past. He has never used Usenet before? Unless he has specifically mentioned to you that he is interested in learning about Usenet and how it works, I'd suggest that you forget about setting him up with Usenet. It is largely an anachronism. Most internet users today aren't even aware that Usenet exists, and many of those that do, think it is run by Google. Today's Usenet users tend to be of two stripes: They have been internet users for 20 years and pine for the good old days, or they are "clueless newbie google groupers". The former can be downright nasty on the latter. Your dad should be able to find decent enough discussions on web forums, which eclipsed Usenet for internet discussions many years ago. -- K.
