Much more than that. It's got ftp builtin which is great and the
original NC never had that.

Am I missing the question? Both Nano and MC are in Slackware 13 (and
they are in 12.0 too). Nano is a variant of Pico, and Pico has long been
included, I guess always as part of the Pine package. I've not checked,
but Nano may now be the editor included with the Alpine package (Alpine
being a variant of Pine, and the one that's included in Slack 13).

The "install disk" is now the DVD (or multiple CDROMs, so the stuff
is there.

The only other way I can interpret your question is that you think it
should be available when booting the DVD during the install phase.
