If you're troubleshooting a configuration, and you don't *see* anything that seems wrong, it's time to look for anything wrong that you don't "see". file and od become very valuable tools at that point. Also, in its default configuration, vim will identify the file as "DOS" formatted, on the status line at the bottom, so you still could have seen that before much of your time had been wasted: My example above shows the following when opened in vim: "Ethernet_dos.txt" [dos] 1695L, 65201C 1,1 Top -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylvain Robitaille syl(a)encs.concordia.ca Systems analyst / AITS Concordia University Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science Montreal, Quebec, Canada ----------------------------------------------------------------------

The standard unix text editor is ex, not vi. Who is "Pat?" Are you referring to Mr. Volkerding? Would you have us believe that you are on a firstname basis? You have no idea whether "Pat" reads this group. In fact, when he gets up in the morning "Pat" has no idea what he is going to end up reading that day. You are a small impotent little troll, seeking recognition through implied association with the writer of an old, small, and essentially failed, linux distribution. Actually, vi is a mode of the ex editor. > So, Nano should be the default editor on EVERYTHING, including kettles. No, nano is junk and everyone knows it. Use mcwrite or joe if you aren't willing to use vim.
