From: Rick on 30 Mar 2010 14:23 I purchased a backup box to use in case my hardware fails. I have Win 2008 Server sp2. I use Windows backup to make a complete backup each night. I thought I should be able to restore to the new server by booting to the Win install disk and select complete restore. The new server has two hdd's that have the same drive letters as the old. The C: drive on the old is slightly small than the new one (150 gb vs 250 gb), but otherwise it has the same hardware. I boot to the Win install disk, select complete restore, plug in the backup drive and select the backup I want. When I start the restore it fails with "The Parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)". When I google this it seems to indicate a corrupt backup. I can use this backup to restore a file on to the old computer, so it seems okay - not corrupt. Any ideas on how to proceed? Regards, Rick

From: Charlie Russel - MVP on 30 Mar 2010 15:32 Have you initialized the disk on the backup box? My memory is that it won't work if the disk on the target box hasn't been at least initialized and/or a volume/partition created on it. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/russel "Rick" <Rick(a)LakeValleySeed.com> wrote in message news:8F04D436-9D3E-4E0B-9E42-91B75FC57C3D(a)microsoft.com... >I purchased a backup box to use in case my hardware fails.
