hello, I have a client they have a sbs 2003 server fully updated, and i
just copied over 20 gigs of data to the one bosses profile, now its been
a week and the clients and boss are complaining their network is slow,
they have gigabit speed.

I checked the server there are no errors in the event log, have checked
random computers and no errors in the event logs.

I have noticed that the bosses profile when it is loaded explorer.exe is
sitting at 5% usage while just on the desktop.

I ping the desktops from the server and all the pings are <1ms so there
is no lag.

what else can it be?

I have tcp offload on the server because it has never given me problems
should i disable it?

Hi John:

When you say "slow", can you explain what the users are doing that makes
them think "slow". Like maybe logging in or out? Or opening Outlook? Or
running their Accounting application?

Also, what are the specks of the server? CPU, RAM, Hard Drive Controller
type and drive type and RAID type?

slow is opening data on desktop or my documents since it is redirected.
Quickbooks is also slow opening and adding data

server starts

CPU: 3 ghz core2duo E8400
RAM: 4 GB ECC DDR2 800mhz
Disk: SATA 7200 RPM 16 Mb cache
Disk Controller: Intel Raid Controller Onboard
Raid Type: Raid 1

Well, "slow" is a matter of individual perception, unless you have metrics
to define it. From the desktop, the network would have no effect, so GB
or ArcNet, it would make no difference.

For SBS 2003, the RAM is ok, the MOBO and CPU are marginal, but that has
no effect on opening files. With the note that the "desktop" is not affected
by anything that happens on the server, *assuming* that the desktop is not
made up of shortcuts linked to the server, I suspect the desktops are in
need of cleaning, or the server RAID is not up to the task.

Just to be sure, run the BPA, fix anything it finds, and post up the unedited
results of:

ipconfig /all > c:\iptest.txt
