The update is KB982217. I looked in my C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$ folder and didn't see it listed. I manually ran Windows Update the day before yesterday and it didn't get listed as needing to be installed. Those who allow Microsoft to install updates automatically, as usual, will get the hose job. -- John Corliss BS206. Because of all the Googlespam, I block all posts sent through Google Groups. I also block as many posts from anonymous remailers (like x-privat.org for eg.) as possible due to forgeries posted through them. No ad, CD, commercial, cripple, demo, nag, share, spy, time-limited, trial or web wares OR warez for me, please. Adobe Flash sucks, DivX rules.

Even if you don't update automatically you should still get the option to install if the update is relevant to your system.

Use the Technet route instead and chose to install only what you know you want and need. Oh dear, that involves some knowledge on the user's part, so is obviously ruled out. Microsoft's own monthly newsletter 'security for home computer users' kindly points the way to get those. No need to install those 'special' bits of software supplied by Microsoft for updating, and you can use any browser you like, as far as I can see. I regularly use Firefox, but I've also used Opera in the past. I haven't tried Iron yet. Cheers, Roy |
