Of course it is a waste of time for you if you don't need to run any
Classic programs. Just as Photoshop is a waste of time for me because
I don't do stuff with photos and iTunes is a waste of time for me
because I don't listen to music on my computer. However, some people
need (or maybe just enjoy) programs that require Classic, so Classic is
not a waste of time for them.

Obviously Apple have decided that it is a waste of their time and other
resources to support Classic and that is a perfectly valid commercial
decision for them to make. However, some of us would still like to
find an alternative way to run our old programs.

G5s can't boot OS 9, I think that is why.

Also for current time, it is nice to have a ~6 GB 10.4.10 partition in
startup volume labeled as "Repair" with NO HACKS installed and just
utilities as Disk Warrior, Techtool (if you purchased it). Even Disk
Utility can do great work.

I do it since my Amiga days and it never hurts. What is 6 GB in current
HD scene anyway? :)

It is also great to test new software before installing to main boot
partition or test new devices.

I think the Classic drop on Leopard has something to do with some very
low level Carbon calls being depreciated (and dropped) and pure 64bit.

I went mad to Apple abandoning billions of lines of work/history but if
this is the case, they should put a small knowledge base article
explaining. They have some marvellous PR but on Technical issues, they
lack it.

My upgraded-processor Sawtooth will probably boot Leopard, and it will
certainly boot 9.2.2 (which it doesn't, because I've got my 10 gig 9.2.2
hard disk sitting in an anti-static bag in a box somewhere in the
basement, but still ...).

Hmm. I can probably try booting over the LAN, since I put ('restored')
my Leopard install disc on a nice clean partition on the Mac Pro, but I
haven't got 2 licenses, so That Would Be Wrong; what if I kept my eyes
closed?

I was about to ask the same question. Which ROM you use definitely
matters.
