I've often been vaguely interested, but they've always been too expensive; 399GBP would be tempting, but whatever the new one is (649GBP, were people saying? The Store seems to be down for me) is way too much. Wasn't the UK Pound once worth more against the US Dollar? If you look at the entry level US price, it has increased from the original $499 (PowerPC Mini) to $599 (Intel Mini) and now $699 (Mid 2010 Mini). i.e. the US price has increased 40% since the start of 2005. According to MacTracker, the UK price was originally 339, so it has gone up 91% from the original Mac Mini. The difference is mostly explained by the exchange rate: US$1 = UK0.6795 now, UK0.5213 then. Ratio is about 1.3, and 1.3 x 1.4 = 1.82. There is a small additional increase, perhaps due to additional duties or some forward exchange rate pessimism. -- David Empson dempson(a)actrix.gen.nz |
