There is very little chance, IMHO, that someone who doesn't know exactly
why that result is there would offer it in this context, especially given
the crossposts.

On the other hand, there's a pretty good chance, given the sorts of
people one finds in AFC, that the intended point is to observe that not
everyone shifted calendars at the same time...

From the cal man page:
-s country_code

Assume the switch from Julian to Gregorian Calendar at the
date associated with the country_code. If not specified,
ncal tries to guess the switch date from the local
environment or falls back to September 2, 1752. This was
when Great Britain and her colonies switched to the
Gregorian Calen‐ dar.
