Nope.

I tried the usual trick- made it locked, then unticked it. No change.

The thing I don't understand (I never did understand permissions anyway)
is that for peter ceresole, it's read and write. For 'everyone' it's the
same. But for 'staff', it's read only. And I can't change that.

Also try this:

Open up Terminal.app (should be in Applications/Utilities)

In the window type:

ls -l

press space and then drag your file into the window. You should then get
the path to the file. Press enter. Tell us what it says.

Open terminal.app and type...

sudo chmod 777 <then drag file icon to terminal window to get path>

enter user password

that should make *everyone* able to read and write the file!

see man or info chmod for more details
