I'd wager they don't look the same in Lynx as they do in Safari.

(And that's exactly how it should be; HTML is a markup language, not a
page description language.)

Technically (and unfortunately) while it does strive to be markup only,
it's actually a bit of both.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and comments. I'm definitely going
to get at least one new editor.

My html needs are simple. At the moment I'm enjoying editing the
source because I like to know exactly what's there and I'm learning a
thing or two (not an understatement). If I get involved in a big
project, I'll revisit the possibility of html-producing software, so I
read the discussion of that subject with interest.

I don't care about Lynx, or IE < 8, and I use Flash and JS. I also don't
design for the blind or the deaf or the stupid.

Same here. I should have been following this, I think. But I just use
an old BBEdit Lite and do a lot of cutting and pasting of old bits of
code. Nothing fancy on my pages, but I'm not really into bells and
whistles just for the sake of bells and whistles.
