Can you set up the portable version to use the context menu? If you
can then I'll change over.

thanks

Hi John,

I know I am going to hate saying this (unfortunately a flame war might
ensue) but I have to disagree with part of your statement.

My production computer currently dual boots WindowsXP & Karmic Koala (I
use VMs for OSes I need to test under with VirtualBox which runs under
both installed OSes).

Yes Karmic Koala uses less resources, but from a John-Q user does far
less than Windows. Also, you will find that Linux is moving more towards
run time packages also. There are a number of apps that are using the
GTK+ run time package.

As to marketing strategy, your right Microsoft is in the business to
make money . . . they make that money by selling software. I take pot
shots at Microsoft on a regular basis mainly because I don't mind
anybody making a 'reasonable' profit . . . they far surpass what I
consider reasonable. The fact that they want to control the market is
what successful business want to do.

John-Q though needs to let Microsoft know with their wallets what they
think of the quality of the products.

No, I am not telling everyone to switch to Linux since Linux doesn't do
a good job of listening to John-Q either. Telling a person that the
software is free is all well and good . . . but if it doesn't do what
John-Q wants/needs to do or can be done easily then John-Q is simply
going to ignore the product.

Whether you sell a set product or deliver services, I believe that what
the customer telling me what they want/need is better than me telling
the customer what I think they should have.

I primarily make skeletons, simply because I know every business is
different. By simply showcasing skeletons I give the customer the
opportunity to say what THEY want.

Let me give you an example one of my truly pet peeves with Windows is
the file dialog box. Why after all of these iterations of Windows is the
file dialog box not totally customizable?

Sincerely,

Well, yesterday I posted an invitation to the Eraser forum for the
developers to join the discussion here in ACF. I'd really like to see
them reconsider their use of dotnet 3.5 in version 6. Probably won't
happen though.

Yes, I made the same mistake. Stopped the install as soon as it tried
to give me dotnet. Eraser was a very good smallish utility. I'll
keep using an older version on XP Pro.
