I tend to put that down to "The Internet's a weird thing".

Yes, you're kind of right; they've had that version for some time- the
one with the little camera symbols that give you a truly weird entrance
to Street View. There are morte of them now, but it's only a
quantitative change, not qualitative.

The problems remain the same; I find it a truly horrible interface, and
just now when I tried to go back to overhead view, it crashed Google
Earth, which is the first time it's ever done that to me. At least it
didn't crash the Mac (Skype run simultaneously with iChat is the only
thing that's done that in many years) but I think it's so superior in
Google Maps that I reckon I'll stick to that for Street View.

But just as they have fixed whatever the problem was with Skype'n iChat,
I'm sure given time they'll fix Google Earth too.

And that problem remains entire; just now, moving to the next camera
image worked once, and then on the second move it crashed Google Earth
again.

This was on my iG5, running 10.4.11. To check it wasn't just a symptom
of extreme age (not mine this time, but the kit) I tried it on Anne's
MBP. Same result; everything went faster, certainly, but at the fourth
move to a new 'camera' along the street, it fell over.

Not too great, just yet.

Going up the same street using Street View in Google Maps worked fine.
So it's no real problem even now.
