I never found restores of OS/2 to be painful, although the head crashes
making the restore necessary certainly were.

I wasn't using OS/2. OS = Operating System.

OS/2 *is* an operating system. Are you saying that your restore problems
were due to the specific operating system that you were using, rather
than, e.g., the backup technology you were using?

I was just trying to clear up a possible point of misunderstanding,
since you appeared to take "OS" as referring specifically to "OS/2".
And to avoid the next misunderstanding, I'm not calling you stupid or
claiming that you *did* misunderstand, only saying that it appeared
possible.

On the basis of context, given that you were replying to my post which
didn't in any way mention OS/2 or the specifics of any particular
operating system, but which did use the acronym OS.
