The owner of the book has locked the files, you should either contact the authors X. J. Kennedy / Dana Gioia or the publisher <http://www.pearsonhighered.com/> if you need to combine the chapters into one long document. You can print any of the pages by selecting a page in Preview and copy the text which you can then paste into a text app.

If you have an old install of Mac OS X on another computer, I found for one set of documents I was able to open, unlock and just print to a new PDF to remove the encryption. The route is disabled on newer versions of Mac OS X, though. If you manage that, it ought to be easier to knit them together. Steve

I believe the reason the publisher locked the document is to entice the reader to purchase it. So, I take it you're not aware of any free software or techniques that one can use to overcome the inability to combine and/or print the individual files? -- iMac (24", 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 320 GB HDD) OS X (10.5.8)

But what is different about the "old" install-- the "route" -- that enables one to overcome the software lock? > If you manage that, it ought to be easier to knit them together. > > > Steve -- iMac (24", 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 320 GB HDD) OS X (10.5.8)
