Thanks, glad to have joined the party. :)

IOW, light is just a name we give to the stuff that surrounds, that
appears to us and disappears before us, that moves freely as a wave, that
"joins hands with itself" to form particles ... So where does that take
us in our knowledge of it?

Our eyes are processors of an attribute of this stuff, but what this
stuff is ... remains a mystery as wide and deep as the origins of our
being. Modern science and technology approximate the behaviour of the
stuff in our particular section of timespace. Alas, approximations are
merely postulates.

Fractals. Maths. And then the physics, wot?

Light is instantaneous. Seeing light that is- not the propagating
aspects of EMR, which is lights' raw material.

This is the local answer. What is the non local answer? Does anyone
really believe that light can propagate billions of light years,
basically in a straight line, to finally reach our eyes, and to fall
into them? Do people realize how impractical this sounds?

Mæther is the unified form of the universe. Mæther has mass. It exists
in two states, aether and matter. Aether is uncompressed mæther and
matter is compressed mæther. Aether and matter have mass.

'DOES THE INERTIA OF A BODY DEPEND UPON ITS ENERGY-CONTENT? By A.
EINSTEIN'
http://www.fourmilab.ch/etexts/einstein/E_mc2/e_mc2.pdf

"If a body gives off the energy L in the form of radiation, its mass
diminishes by L/c2."

The mass of the body does diminish, but the matter which no longer
exists as part of the body has not vanished. It still exists, as
aether. As the matter transitions to aether it expands in three
dimensions. The effect this transition has on the surrounding aether
and matter is energy.

Mæther decompressing creates energy.

Mass is conserved.
