Topology Puzzler
Let S be a set and p an element of S. What topology can S have if for all functions f:S -> S, f is continuous iff f(p) = p or f is constant function? Is the topology unique? If it's required that the space be T0, will the topology be unique? ... 28 Jul 2010 05:17
What could WYLBNIMGTHAD possibly mean?
My penpal from Mexico (who is studying cryptology) sent me this... mysterious message... does anyone have any clue as to what that could possibly mean? I tried rot n for n = 1 to 25, but I couldn't get anything out. Any kind of input would be greatly appreciated! :D ... 27 Jul 2010 18:24
Polynomial Interpolation
Hi.., Given sampling points { i.e. yi = fi(x) } one can get an interpolation polynomial. one can choose 1. Least Squares 2. Lagrange Polynomial or 3. Orthogonal Polynomials if the problem is like this ui = fi(x,y,z,t). How to sample them and get an interpolation polynomial. Particularly, how ... 27 Jul 2010 05:10
Al Gore, Jr. and Senior's key backer was Armand Hammer; nowadays, perhaps Beyond Petroleum
yeah, I'd forgotten about that, that the dragnet got all sorts of folks with similar names, most of whom happened to be of African heritage. (on the wayside, Africa is an Arabic or Muslim name .-) So maybe some of the felons weren't voting illegally anyway. thus: iff as definitional seems to make some sort... 27 Jul 2010 00:51
Verifying Spherical Coordinate Methods?
I'm doing some coordinate transform work on the earths surface using lat/long using xyz rotation matrices. So far the results look decent but concocting test cases and results is a bit tricky. Maybe there's a software tool that would help? Here's a simple example I'm working on. x is pointing south, y east and... 10 Aug 2010 04:46
Does "iff" make sense in a definition?
I ran across a definition in Wikipedia of the form "A is B iff C", and I can't quite get my head around this. Does adding "and only if" really add something to "if" when we are stating a definition? Does it even make sense? (Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totally_bounded_space "Definition for a metric space"... 28 Jul 2010 21:46
stability analysis, routh-hurwitz criterion, jacobi matrix [urgent] (repost)
Hello, Ok, sorry guys this is a repost. There were display problems in my last message, so i hope it's better now. I have got a quite urgent questions regarding stability analysis of a three dimensional of differential equations. I don't quite understand how this works in that case or more which method the a... 27 Jul 2010 15:04
