I don't use that server to access microsoft.*. I use the same one I'm
using now. Mainly for microsoft.public.nl.* and those (nl) newsgroups
are carried by several other news servers.

In order to remove them 'properly', they would need to send an rmgroup
message, correct ? (I'm not very familiar with the correct procedure.)

My guess is that Microsoft doesn't want their users comparing notes with
Linux fans.

Neither am I but sending the right control message to delete the group would remove a
group in Usenet at large.

My guess it is more about control of content, moderation and the blocking of spam and
trolls.
