"Microsoft said it plans to end support for more than 4,000 old-style
newsgroups starting next month, pushing users instead to discussion
forums such as those found on the Microsoft Answers, TechNet and MSDN
sites.

Although venerable, Microsoft said that so-called NNTP newsgroups have
past their time in terms of being usable and secure."

They plan to 'end support', what does this mean? The microsoft.*
newsgroups won't disappear but their won't be any "official" M$ support?
If so, then who cares? As long as the newsgroups stay alive... (?)

Yes, but it means we're stuck with alt.* and never-ending killfiles unless
we go to MS. I liked their NNTP groups.

So you think the microsoft.* newsgroups will disappear? BTW they aren't
moderated (are they?).

It means the Microsoft.* hierarchy will no longer propagate from msnews.microsoft.com

Whether it will exist in Usenet at large... your guess is as good as mine.
