Do they? Which ones? Prior to getting the 3 phone, I've only used Orange -
and their PAYG system uses 450 for top-ups and 453 for balance info - so I
didn't automatically assume that 3's top-up number also gave balance info.

Virgin 789
Vodafone 2345
T Mobile 150

Orange contract 150

Yes Orange PAYG is odd in unnecessarily having separate numbers.
Must go back to when Orange Just Talk was run by a separate company,
something like world communications?

They ought to standardise on 150 like contract, or 4444
which works on O2 and Three (Three ignoring any extra 4's)

Fair enough. The only problem with that is that you almost need to know the
answer to your question in order to use the right search terms to find it.
