Not exactly the same... .... which webkit (1) was derived (for safari) from a fork of khtml developed by kde. I know of about 5 local iPad buyers. All are otherwise Windoze users. However, 4 of them are also iPod Touch users, which for some odd reason doesn't seem to be classified as a computer, despite being about 99% similar to an iPad. I think if you dig deeper into the statistics, a large portion of the iPad buyers just want a better iPod Touch. (Just a guess). >apple repeatedly cites surveys they've done about people buying macs, >ipods and other products and has found about 50% are new apple >customers. i don't have a specific link for that, other than listen to >the quarterly earnings reports where they mention it fairly >consistently. I just love such statistics. Since Apple has about 10% of the PC market, if the 50% trend continues, all computers will be Apple computers within 20 years. (Hint: Trends don't continue for long.) This is a year old, but is probably still true: <http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/07/23/premium_priced_computer_market_dominated_by_apple.html> While the average Windows machine in June sold for $515, the average Apple machine came in at $1,400. Translation: The average Apple computer buyer pays over twice as much for his hardware. That's not quite true for iPhone versus Droid, but with the 2:1 deal that Verizon is offering on the Droid, it's close. This is a spreadsheet comparing Dell and Apple products I produced in Dec 2009. <http://802.11junk.com/jeffl/crud/Mac-vs-PC.xls> I did my best to select comparable products. Most of the Dell products are now obsolete and have been replaced with other machines. All the Apple machines listed are unchanged (as of about 2 weeks ago). Bottom line is that Apple products cost about twice as much, except for the 13" MacBook. If all this is true, then Apple can sell its iPhones for twice the price of the Android phones, and not lose any customers or new sales. Except in luxury items, I don't know of any other industry that has such company (not product) loyalty. -- Jeff Liebermann jeffl(a)cruzio.com 150 Felker St #D http://www.LearnByDestroying.com Santa Cruz CA 95060 http://802.11junk.com Skype: JeffLiebermann AE6KS 831-336-2558 |
